About
Starting in April 2004 as The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Co., Ltd., UTEC has so far raised a cumulative total of about JPY 130 billion, mainly from institutional investors, and has managed six venture capital funds. Working with research institutions in Japan and abroad, including the University of Tokyo, and alongside entrepreneurs, researchers and engineers, it has invested in 160 startups, mainly at the seed stage, of which 21 have gone public and 22 have been through M&A (mergers and acquisitions) and similar exits.
